At In Onda, La 7’s political in-depth talk show, a clash takes place between Italo Bocchino and Massimo Giannini. The Repubblica columnist effectively attacks the government head-on, focusing on the electoral law that sparked much debate this week due to the amendment on preferences rejected in the Chamber. A setback for the majority that, however, did not prevent the approval of the text in Montecitorio and now awaits passage to Palazzo Madama.
Giannini does not mince words and effectively insults: “For this right-wing, the Constitution is full of impediments, obstacles they want to bypass. Even the majority prize goes in this direction. For example, in the presidential election from the third ballot onwards, a two-thirds majority will suffice…”. Italo Bocchino intervenes on this point and freezes him: “Look, all this is already provided for, maybe you don’t know?”.
Giannini falters but tries to hold his ground after the embarrassment: “They want to create a figure, the head of government, capable of being on par with the Head of State”. Telese adds: “No, more than that because he would have a popular mandate”. But Bocchino cuts short: “You are talking about two completely different figures with two very different roles”.
