Ginevra Bompiani appears on Dritto e Rovescio, an in-depth program hosted by Mario Giordano every Thursday prime time on Rete 4. The writer is a guest via connection and challenges Giuseppe Cruciani on a politics of fear that turns into security decrees and restrictive measures: “Five security decrees, how many are needed for a dictatorship? If I sit on the ground I go to jail.”

Cruciani replies: “But these are not the decrees of a dictatorship, they are security decrees for Italy’s security. They are for the safety of Italians.” Bompiani then responds like this: “Security is a lie, it is a ghost that wanders around Europe. Security does not exist. Security is a ghost. If you want to add a bit of it, it requires maintenance and not punishments, weapons. And moreover, there is another very important thing. There is another very important thing produced by these new far-right parties. Voted by the people, voted by individuals. And it is war, war.”

The host of La Zanzara, however, does not agree and counters: “In Italy there is not only no dictatorship, but I believe there have been six thousand demonstrations both in 2025 and 2026, mostly by far-left groups, often violent, as we saw in Bologna. The police do not use violence, actually too little, because they are restrained by directives not to raise their hands against anyone. Talk to the police officers. The directive is to not hit too much, because otherwise a mess happens, this is what happens in Italy.”
The writer of Le specie del sonno then adds: “We have had a far-right government for four years and not a center-right one as everyone says, for some unknown reason even TV and newspaper journalists. A far-right government in which, 20 minutes after the bell rings, students were beaten by the police. Two days later there was a rave, a peaceful gathering of boys and girls that was treated as if it were a terrible terrorist act and a law was made against gatherings, so that there would be no more. At the same time, on that same day, there was a fascist gathering that was not disturbed. There is not much difference, this is what I am saying.”
