Here is the celebration for the longevity of the government in Bari. Then the political speeches with European Commissioner Raffaele Fitto, the leader of Noi moderati Maurizio Lupi, Deputy Prime Ministers Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani (via connection). Closing the event was the speech by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The President of the Council Giorgia Meloni arrived at the party organized by FdI and appeared on stage during Raffaele Fitto’s speech, which was briefly interrupted to greet her while the crowd applauded. Then the stage speech. Meloni does not mince words and immediately strikes at the left: “We are here for these 4 years of government and I thank my allies because we shared a vision. Those who instead ally to stop the opponent, the next day find themselves in trouble and quarrel.”

And again: “We must be proud not of governing for 1,413 days, but of still having from you, even after 1,413 days, a higher consensus than we had on the first day of this government.” Then she spoke about the electoral system: “The battles Italy used to lose it now wins, these are achievements we want to leave to Italians regardless of who will win. For this reason, we propose that in the next elections and the following ones they can choose the coalition, the program, and the candidate to propose to the Head of State. This means no upheavals, no palace maneuvers as the PD would like to do again this time, and having five years to govern.”
Then Meloni also spoke about the value of a stable government: “Stability for Italy has not been a whim, it has been a shield, thanks to it we have protected this nation. We protected the savings of Italians when many were waiting for the financial storm to send this government home.” At this point the Prime Minister sets the goals: “I know very well that on some matters the discontinuity that Italians were asking for is still not visible as it should be and on others the answers do not come quickly or perhaps are not enough. Never think that we lack political will or courage. Of course, we make mistakes like everyone else, but what we are trying to do – she explained – is not easy: dismantling power structures decades old, convincing a resigned Nation that it is worth believing again. It is not easy, it requires time, patience, and a mountain of courage. There were days when it seemed to me I was swimming in glue, but I did not give up and I do not intend to do so now. To our leadership I want to say: we must do more and better.” At this point she warns the Democrats: “With the reform of the electoral law we propose that in the next elections and those from now on citizens can choose coalition, program, and premier candidate to propose to the Head of State, and whoever wins has the numbers to govern 5 years: no upheavals, no governments in the palace as the PD would like to do again this time, no compromises but governments chosen by the citizens.”
The fuel price issue: “Other measures are coming but I announce that this time they will be more targeted because I cannot afford, we cannot afford to spend more money to allow those who do not need it or those who come to get fuel from France to have the same help as an Italian who earns twelve hundred euros a month.” There is also a jab at the left about nonexistent ghosts: “Roberto Speranza proposes to run an elderly partisan as premier. Well, the left has been using anti-fascism as a weapon of mass destruction to seize power for eighty years. Now at least they admit it…”.
