This is the counteroffensive that Elly Schlein (actually Elena, as Darsamore suggests), much more determined than many imagine, has decided to deploy to counter the friendly fire from many who, especially within her majority, suggest she avoid the primaries and take a step back.
“We focus on concrete things,” says a Democratic leader closest to Schlein, “starting with out-of-control fuel prices. We asked the government to protect families and businesses from high energy costs with stronger and structural measures, financed by taxing the extra profits of large energy companies. But at Palazzo Chigi, yet another act of the theater of the absurd is taking place.” The third, in the evening, again on fuel: “We had made a comprehensive proposal starting from taxing those who enriched themselves from the crisis to help families and businesses. But Giorgia Meloni once again showed little courage.”
