Gianmarco Tamberi gold and Matteo Sioli bronze in the high jump at the European Athletics Championships, currently underway in Birmingham. Tamberi wins with 2.32 ahead of the favorite Ukrainian Doroshchuk (three errors at 2.32 after a perfect competition always leading) and the other Italian Matteo Sioli, who injures himself on the first attempt at 2.30 and is forced to stop with the bronze.
Before the final, Tamberi had dedicated a long post on Instagram to his daughter Camilla. “There are days in the calendars of our lives that for some strange reason seem like true astrological conjunctions. Today, one year ago, you came into the world,” he wrote, celebrating the little one’s first birthday with a carousel of shots depicting some family moments, together with his wife Chiara Bontempi. “In just one year you have turned our life upside down – Tamberi continued -, you gave me the strength to react in one of my hardest moments. All this in just one year of life, my love. I am madly in love with you.” Then, looking ahead to the final: “Today your Babà will show you what he does best. Having you sitting in the stands tonight clapping your hands in time is an immense privilege. Perhaps an astrological conjunction, or perhaps a sign of destiny, the fact remains that today I will fly again for you!”.
