There is chaos in the Chamber over the cancellation of the Covid inquiry commission meeting. A decision explained by Marco Lisei through a note in which he recalled that “due to the parliamentary sessions scheduled for Tuesday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 5, with voting planned all day both in the Chamber and the Senate, I had to cancel Giuseppe Conte’s hearing. Already last week my offices had contacted Conte’s secretariat anticipating that it would be difficult to hold the hearing on August 4 and 5. Therefore, they had requested other availabilities and I myself, during the last session, had warned that it would be useful for the M5s leader to propose other dates. On last Friday my offices again contacted Conte’s secretariat, but without receiving availability for other days. So I decided to try to schedule it anyway on August 4, but as expected there is physically no room for a hearing that will require several hours. My offices will contact Conte again to identify other useful dates.”

Yet this was not enough for the Five Star Movement which decided to turn the tables: “You run away as usual – says Riccardo Ricciardi, Five Star group leader, speaking in the assembly, addressing Fdi – you have been relaunching for years, then we come to see you and you leave. We have exposed your bluff without even sitting at that table. Conte has always been available to be heard, you only do talk and propaganda, on the facts you are always constantly contradicted.” From the Fdi benches it is the deputy Alice Buonguerrieri who replies: “We have witnessed – she thunders – over these years the saga of the Giuseppis. We have been waiting for him for two years but we only received the resignation today, once he was backed into a corner by Fdi, he could no longer avoid resigning. After lying and mocking Italians for two whole years, we thought he couldn’t do worse, but there is no end to the worst.” Words spoken addressing the former premier by the name “Giuseppi” and provoking protests from the M5s deputies so much so that the vice president of the Chamber Sergio Costa is forced to suspend the session.

But even once resumed, the protests did not stop. Costa in the end is forced to expel the M5s deputy Leonardo Donno who, however, refuses to leave the chamber, despite the president’s invitation who finally suspends the session again.
