“Ceuta? By blood or on paper: Italy for Italians. Europe for Europeans. Africa for Africans. PERIOD.” This is not said by a center-right representative, but Mario Balotelli. The Italian footballer of African origins, always engaged in battles against racism, wants to make things clear about what is happening in Ceuta.
And so, in a story published on his Instagram profile, he gives his opinion. Long targeted by racist chants and insults during his football career in Italy and abroad, the striker did not deny having ideas similar to those of Matteo Salvini. Some time ago, commenting on a live broadcast of the Lega leader, Balotelli stated that the minister “also says right things.” And again: “Those who truly follow Europe do not love Italy.” During the 2021 lockdown, he explicitly wrote: “I am not left-wing, I am not right-wing and I never take political positions,” but he criticized the management of the pandemic by the Italian political class.
Meanwhile, the Spanish Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, during a press conference reported by Spanish media, wanted to reassure: “The necessary means and resources have been immediately put in place. In less than 48 hours, the situation in Ceuta has completely changed and normality is being restored.”
