Roby Facchinetti is eighty-two years old, sixty spent with the Pooh. Composer, keyboardist, singer, thousands of concerts around the world, a life on and off the stage. Even certain evenings when his thoughts were elsewhere, his place was there and he never stopped moving people with his songs that have crossed time without shocks. The other day at the Summer Festival in Lucca something happened that had never happened before.
A mistake, a distraction, a memory lapse. Facchinetti sings “Pierre” wrong. At the beginning of the second verse he replaces the original line with an incomprehensible phrase that he will define as “afrobergamasca.” He could have rested on that half-century of laurels, allowed himself the luxury of the mistake and even pretended nothing happened. But he apologized to the audience. The fans don’t even think they have to forgive him for this stumble, they just want to discover the mysterious phrase. What surprises us, instead, is that in a world where everyone looks for excuses, he asked for them.
