But the damage is done. The champion of workers’ rights has definitively lost face. From Fratelli d’Italia they say: “There is a substantial difference between those who use rights as a slogan and those who respect them in practice. It is striking to see a European parliamentarian who has built much of her public image on the defense of workers and social rights having to answer before a judge precisely for the way in which relations with two collaborators were interrupted. Those who daily claim to impart lessons on legality, rights, and social justice should be the first to demonstrate, through their own behavior, respect for the rules and for the people who work alongside them. Credibility is not measured by slogans, but by the consistency between what is said and what is done.” Irreproachable.

“It’s a pity” is instead the ironic comment by Matteo Salvini on the matter. The League’s reaction on its social media channels was also ironic, writing: “Damn Hungarian justice… oh no“. The reference is naturally to the judicial events involving Salis in Hungary, regarding which the left has repeatedly denounced violations of the rule of law and procedural guarantees.

Nicola Fratoianni’s reaction is also interesting: “For the Green and Left Alliance, respect for judicial rulings, and even more so for workers’ rights, is unshakeable. Ilaria Salis has stated that she is confident she can prove her case on appeal. We will see how the appeal goes, but there is no doubt that for us this remains a fixed point.” Has Avs also decided to drop her?
